About us

Bakery on O’Connell is a family owned and run business. We opened in March of 2003 at our original location of 44 O’Connell Street.

The demand for hot pies and donuts in the late hours of the night drove the business to become a 24/7 bakery, available to anyone at any hour. In 2015 we moved into our now home of 128–130 O’Connell Street.

We are the home of the pie floater and the creator of the Nutella Heart, and a unique and award winning bakery and cafe open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Over 20 years on, everything is still hand crafted here by our own baking team, and there is seating for over 80 people. We are proudly South Australian owned and operated, making and baking over 200 products on the premises.

We are a few minutes by car or a fifteen minute walk from the heart of the city, in the historical food hub of North Adelaide on busy O’Connell Street. Walk it from Rundle Mall along King William Street, past the Festival Centre, Elder Park, the Torrens, Adelaide Oval and St Peter's Cathedral, then up the hill into North Adelaide.

We close at 5pm on 24 December and reopen at 7am on 3 January each year, for maintenance and a little break. It is the only closure of the year.
